Two letters are silent: the w at the start and the t in the middle. The w is the same as in wrist and write. The t drops out in -stle words such as castle, whistle and listen.
The word comes from Old English wraestlian, a repeated form of wraestan, to twist. A wrestler is, in a way, a person who keeps twisting. Old English speakers said the w; modern speakers do not.
Say it in two quick pieces: res, then a light l with no vowel before it. Do not add a t before the l, and do not add a w at the start.
