Your estimated level, A1 to C2, a score for vocabulary, grammar and reading, and the lesson to start at in Slova.
How we estimate your level
Every question is written at one level: a word gap, the closest meaning or the right reply, a grammar gap, Spanish word order with the ★ piece, and a short text like the DELE Comprensión de lectura. The Spanish is pan-Hispanic: ustedes rather than vosotros, and no answer that is right in one country and wrong in another. A level counts as passed when you get three of its questions right, and your result is the highest level you passed, counting up from A1. A short test cannot tell C1 from C2, so C2 shows as your next goal. The questions are original and not calibrated on large groups of learners, so the result is an estimate, not an official DELE result. For the real format, see the Instituto Cervantes’ DELE exam models.

DELE exam levels and format
The DELE is the official Spanish diploma of the Instituto Cervantes, for Spain’s Ministry of Education. It has one exam per level, A1 to C2.
Every DELE exam tests four skills: comprensión de lectura (reading), comprensión auditiva (listening), expresión e interacción escritas (writing) and expresión e interacción orales (speaking). From A1 to B2 the four are grouped in two pairs, reading with writing and listening with speaking, and you need at least 30 of 50 points in each pair, 60 of 100 in all. The diplomas do not expire.
DELE B1 shows you can get by on your own in everyday life and at work; many employers and some universities ask for it. DELE C1 shows you can use Spanish flexibly for study and work with long, demanding texts. A2 is the level Spain asks for citizenship (with the CCSE culture test).
Our test has no listening, writing or speaking part; the real DELE does. Dates, fees and centres are on the Instituto Cervantes’ site and differ by country.
DELE exam preparation: official exam models
For full papers, use the official ones.
The Instituto Cervantes publishes free exam models for every DELE level (modelos de examen), taken from past sessions, with the audio, the answer sheets and a guide to each exam. A good order: take this test to see which level fits, do one official model with a timer, then practise the parts you lost points in.
Spanish placement test: where to start in Slova
Your result also places you in Slova’s spoken Spanish course of 400 lessons, so you skip what you already know.
Slova is a speaking course in Latin American Spanish: you learn by talking, with an AI tutor, from the first lesson. A written test tends to overrate speaking, so from B1 up we start you one step lower than your reading level.
| Your result | Start at |
|---|---|
| Below A1 | Lesson 1 · First contact and keeping the talk going |
| A1 | Lesson 61 · Likes with actions, family, and talking about someone else |
| A2 | Lesson 101 · Irregular past events and unexpected changes |
| B1 | Lesson 201 · Sharing opinions and questioning claims |
| B2 | Lesson 251 · Unplanned mishaps with «se me…» |
| C1 and up | Lesson 301 · Reacting to recent events and small victories |

How do I know my Spanish level?
Take a level test like this one: 25 questions from A1 to C1 that estimate your CEFR level from vocabulary, grammar and reading in about 10 minutes. For an official level, sit the DELE or SIELE; for speaking, the best check is a conversation with a teacher or tutor.
What are the Spanish levels?
Six CEFR levels: A1 and A2 (basic user), B1 and B2 (independent user), C1 and C2 (proficient user). The DELE has an exam at each, and schools, employers and universities name their requirements in these levels.
What is the DELE exam?
The DELE (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the official Spanish diploma, awarded by the Instituto Cervantes for Spain’s Ministry of Education. There is one exam per level, A1 to C2, each testing reading, listening, writing and speaking, and the diploma does not expire.
What is B1 level Spanish?
B1 is the intermediate level. You can handle most everyday situations on your own, understand the main points of clear texts on familiar topics, and talk about experiences, plans and opinions with short reasons.
Is this a Spanish proficiency test?
It is a short Spanish level test, modelled on the DELE, that estimates your CEFR level from vocabulary, grammar and reading. It is not an official proficiency certificate; for one, sit the DELE or SIELE.
Is this a CEFR Spanish test?
Yes, in the sense that it reports your level on the CEFR scale, A1 to C2, the scale the DELE and SIELE use. It is an estimate from 25 questions, not an official CEFR certificate.
Does the DELE have a listening part?
Yes. Every DELE exam has comprensión auditiva (listening), along with reading, writing and speaking. This free test has no listening, writing or speaking part, so it estimates your level from vocabulary, grammar and reading only. The official exam models include the audio.
What is the difference between DELE and SIELE?
The DELE is a paper exam for one level at a time: you pass or fail that level, and the diploma never expires. The SIELE is a computer-based test for all levels at once: you get a score that places you between A1 and C1, valid for five years. Both come from the Instituto Cervantes; the SIELE is run with universities in Mexico, Spain and Argentina.
Can I take the DELE online?
No, the DELE is taken in person at an exam centre on fixed dates. The SIELE is taken on computer at an exam centre. This level test is online and free.
Is the test in Latin American or Spain Spanish?
Both. The questions use Spanish that any educated speaker accepts, with ustedes rather than vosotros, and no answer depends on the country. Slova’s spoken course teaches Latin American Spanish.
Is the result an official Spanish certificate?
No. This is a practice and level test made by Slova, not by the Instituto Cervantes, and its result is an estimate. Only the DELE or SIELE gives an official certificate. Use our result to choose which level to sit.
